Laboratory Test Materials (Soils, Aggregate, Asphalt)

GWV field geologists and technicians are responsible for sampling, testing, and documentation while performing geotechnical investigations and/or testing services for foundation construction, rough grading, infrastructure and street improvements, tie-back installations, and other construction projects. Construction monitoring is planned based on our thorough understanding of the project specifications, test methods, and schedules.

Test Methods Include:

  • Asphalt Content (Ignition Oven), ASTM D 6307
  • Asphalt Content (Solvent), ASTM D 5444
  • Compaction Test (nuclear gauge & sand cone)
    • Relative Compaction (Density) of in-place soils (sand cone), ASTM D 1556
    • Relative Compaction (Density) of in-place soils (nuclear), ASTM D 6938
    • Relative Compaction (Density) of Bituminous concrete (nuclear), ASTM D 2950
  • Direct Shear Test, ASTM D 3080
  • Durability (coarse and fine)
  • Expansion index of Soils, ASTM D 4829
  • LTMD – Asphalt
  • Maximum density/optimum moisture determination, ASTM D 1557
  • Mechanical Analysis of Soils, ASTM D 422
  • Moisture Density
  • One Dimensional Consolidation, ASTM D 2435
  • Plastic Index of Soils, ASTM D 4318
  • R-value, ASTM D 2844
  • Sand Equivalent, ASTM D 2419
  • Specific Gravity
  • Sieve Analysis of fine and coarse aggregate, ASTM D 136
